When you look at this barn owl, you see unity. The barn owl is easily defined by its unmistakable white and heart-shaped face, and through its ecological role as a predator. However, most of the significance from the bird stems from its widespread geographical presence across continents, as it is found on every continent except Antarctica. The owls’ influence is mainly defined by its physical predatory characteristics, as these traits are what transnationally inspired cultures to view the bird as a symbol of death. Further, their extraordinary hunting skills have inspired technological innovation. By this, the barn owl functions to both unite cultures and unite scientists, building a bridge between biology and technology. Through its biological structure and presence on six of the seven continents, the barn owl functions as a symbol of unity because their predatory characteristics inspire similar ideas across various cultures.
