Swordfish
When you look at this swordfish bill you see, a beautiful piece of artwork. Swordfish have been used in a variety of different ways artistically such as swordfish bill painting which started in the early 1800’s and has continued to this day. The process involves sanding, polishing, and paint the swordfish bill into a piece of art. The most famous swordfish painter is Joseph Agna who was featured in April 1936 in Popular Mechanics. One of his swordfish paintings was even given to President Franklin Roosevelt as a gift. Swordfish have also been used not as the medium which art is created on, but also as the art on other mediums. There are paintings, sculptures, tattoos, sketches, plastic wall mounted swordfish and much more. The inspiration to include this segment of the essay came from a window decal of a sword fish on a truck when I was walking across campus. The most fascinating example to me must be the wall mounted swordfish. Throughout my research I was fascinated with why a swordfish was always seen in coastal building paintings. I found no information on why anybody mounted swordfish yet found an extensive number of things to help you mount a swordfish. This example exemplifies that swordfish seem to be painted for no reason other than association with other existing things. That is one of the beauties with swordfish.
